What is a Master Plan?
A master plan is a non-statutory document that outlines a vision to guide growth and development of a City or Town over the next 20-30 years. Its chapters include visionary strategies for the following:
-Land Use & Zoning
-Public Facilities & Services
-Open Space & Recreation
The Auburn Master Plan Committee is currently updating the 2006 edition of the Town’s Master Plan and aims to complete the document in 2019. This is a multi-year process which began in 2016. The Committee consists of resident volunteers guided by the Town Planner. The Plan shall include contributions from recently completed strategic plans and reports including (but not limited to) the 2017 Planning Vision and Design Guidelines for Drury Square, the 2017 Economic Development Strategic Plan, and the 2017 Comprehensive Housing Plan. The Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission
is also providing assistance with the Transportation Chapter as well as updating maps and tables throughout the document. Most importantly, the collective input from the citizens of Auburn is a cornerstone of the document and is collected through various workshops throughout the process. The Master Plan Committee generally meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month, but can vary depending on meeting room availability.
