The information used to create this map was derived from maps contained in An Atlas of Worcester County Massachusetts which was first published by F.W. Beers and Company in 1870 in New York. The maps indicated the location of most of the residences as well as the businesses. By this time the town had two major railroads running through it, one in the North and one in the South. The resulting increase in manufacturing was a direct result of the new form of transportation. The waterbodies are also increasing in number and size as the new industries harness the waterpower. The appearance of a Roman Catholic church indicates the first wave of non-protestant immigrants. |
