Beginning in April 2010, Auburn will convert to single-stream recycling for all households participating in the town curbside trash and recycling collection program. Single stream means that all recyclable items may be placed together in one toter, and paper items will no longer need to be separated. Read the FAQs about the new trash and recycling program. *Please continue separating your paper recycling until the new trash and recycling program begins.* Auburn currently uses Central Mass Disposal for our trash pickup. This includes trash pickup weekly and recycling every other week. Your toters for trash as well as your recycling must be placed at the curb by 7:00 AM on your scheduled day. Different sections of the Town are picked up different days. Any trash in excess of your toter with the lid closed must be placed in a blue Town of Auburn overflow bag. The following rates apply to households in homes with not more than four dwelling units: • 64-gallon toter- $192 per year ($16 per month) • 35-gallon toter for trash- $156 per year ($13 per month) Condominiums, multi-family homes with more than four (4) units, and trailer parks are not currently included in the town curbside trash and recycling collection program. If you need to have a bulk item picked up, please call Central Mass Disposal directly at 508-721-1472, or contact a hauler of your choice. A bulk item is furniture such as a sofa or mattress, or appliances such as a stove or washer, but cannot be construction material or excess trash. We also have several weeks of yard waste collection twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. The yard waste collection dates will be posted at the town offices, on our town website, on Auburn’s Community TV Cable Channel 11, in Auburn News and the Telegram & Gazette. Yard waste must be placed in compostable paper bags or open containers and set at the front edge of the properties at the street line. Yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected.
