Mask Order for Municipal Buildings Rescinded Effective February 28, 2022
In September, due to spikes in Covid cases in Auburn which continued into and past the holidays, the Auburn Board of Health voted to require all visitors to municipal buildings and employees who could not maintain social distancing to wear face coverings in all municipal buildings. As a result, the Town Manager issued a Mask Order on September 29, 2021 detailing the face coverings requirements.
On February 25, 2022 the Board of Health voted to rescind the mask mandate given the trend over the past couple of weeks which show a decline in weekly positive cases compared to the weekly data over the past couple of months.
Thus, effective Monday, February 28th, the Mask Order for employees and visitors in municipal buildings will be rescinded.
The Governor recently issued an updated Advisory on Face Coverings which states that, effective February 15, 2022, “The Department of Public Health now advises that a fully vaccinated person should wear a mask or face covering when indoors (and not in your own home) if you have a weakened immune system, or if you are at increased risk for severe disease because of your age or an underlying medical condition, or if someone in your household has a weakened immune system, is at increased risk for severe disease or is unvaccinated. For individuals who are not fully vaccinated, it is important that you continue to wear a face covering or mask to help prevent you from spreading COVID-19 to other people.” Per the Governor’s Orders, all people in Massachusetts (regardless of vaccination status) are required to continue wearing face coverings in certain settings, including transportation and health care facilities. Please see www.mass.gov/maskrules for a complete list of venues where face coverings have remained mandatory since May 29, 2021.
Further advisories on face coverings may be forthcoming as the State continues to revise its recommendations.
As a reminder, while all municipal buildings are open to the public, the Drive Through Kiosk at Town Hall and the Outside Service Window at the Treasurer/Collector’s Office will remain open through Friday, March 11th to continue to provide the public with an option to access Town services without entering the Town Hall.
Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and patience as we all navigate through many state and federal regulations and recommendations related to Covid.
