Captain Shawn Steele is a 19-year veteran of the Auburn Fire Rescue Department. He started his career like many at the AFRD, appointed as a call firefighter in 1999. He became an EMT in 2000 and received his Firefighter I/II through the District 7 Recruit Training Program. He continued to serve as a call firefighter until 2003, when he was hired full time as a Firefighter/EMT. Later that year he graduated from the Massachusetts Fire Fighting Academy (MFA) Class #159.
Firefighter Steele continued to work towards his training and professional development over the years, receiving several certifications through the MFA. Firefighter Steele worked on group 1 as a firefighter for 9 years until being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant of group 1 in 2013. He served in that role as a supervisor in the West Auburn Station, in charge of building and facilities maintenance, as well as public education coordinator. Lieutenant Steele was later promoted to Captain of group 2 in 2016 where he currently serves as the shift commander.
Captain Steele holds an associate’s degree in Fire Science from Quinsigamond Community College and is a nationally certified Fire Officer II and Fire Instructor II. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science from Anna Maria College.
