Josh Donovan has been a member of the Massachusetts Fire Service for 5 years. He got his start with the Boylston Fire Department in 2015 as a call Firefighter/EMT where he attended the Massachusetts Fire Academy Call/Volunteer Program as part of Class 067. In August 2018 Josh joined the Auburn Fire Rescue Department as a call Firefighter and in February 2021 was appointed a career Firefighter/EMT assigned to the Fire Prevention Division as a Fire Prevention Officer. Josh holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in fire protection engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He previously worked as a fire protection & life safety consultant where he worked with owners, architects, and engineers on complex fire protection, life safety, and accessibility code-related projects. In this role he gained experience conducting third-party drawing reviews of multi-disciplinary design drawings, performing site walks of existing buildings and construction projects to identify code deficiencies, and serving as a special inspector for the commissioning of new and recommissioning of existing smoke control systems. In addition to his professional experience, he is a credentialed Fire Prevention Officer I in Massachusetts and sits on the Board of Directors for the Society of Fire Protection Engineers – New England Chapter. Josh’s future goals include completing the necessary requirements to obtain his professional engineering licensure, obtaining credentialling as a Fire Prevention Officer II, and becoming a certified fire investigator.
